Dance

Classes begin Saturday, September 10 and run through May 27, 2006, with the following week for recital rehearsals. Please note, dance students will take the same breaks and holidays as other classes. The fee is based on the actual number of weeks each class is scheduled.

• New students enrolling in comprehensive dance for the first time should select from the classes listed at the end of this section. Please enroll by mail as instructed on page 10 of the catalog. Limited openings are a result of the number of returning students currently enrolled in the Family Museum Dance Program.

• Students returning from last year should have received their placement for fall by August 1. If you have been a student with the Museum Dance Program before, and did not receive a placement or secure your placement with a payment, please call Jennifer O’Neil at (563) 344-4151 immediately.

• Waiting lists for placement in dance classes will be maintained through December 31, 2005.

• To assist in performance, safety and costuming, all dance students should purchase regulation dance shoes. Pink ballet slippers for girls and black for boys. Black tap shoes for boys and girls.

• Beginning dancers should purchase pink leotards and tights for girls and navy sweatpants and T-shirts for boys.

• Intermediate and advanced dancers should purchase black leotards and pink tights for girls and black sweatpants and

T-shirts for boys.

INTERMEDIATE AND ADVANCED OPENINGS

Readiness assessment required.Fees are based on program protocol selected.

• Once the young dancer has achieved a variety of intermediate and advanced skills in ballet, it may be possible to move into Pointe classes. Skill and age, however, are not the only measures of readiness for this extremely demanding level of dance. Before placing dancers in Pointe, we require an assessment with our dance coordinator to evaluate the physical strength, development and maturity of each candidate to determine if the student is ready to safely undertake this discipline.

• Additional space for intermediate and advanced dancers is open from time to time. For an assessment time or other inquiries, please leave a message for our Dance Coordinator, Jennifer O’Neil at (563) 344-4151.
