Choose from a variety of classes:

One-Time Activities — Designed to be completed within a single visit, these may be a performance, workshop or event and may require pre-registration and/or special tickets.

Series Classes — Series Classes may be scheduled one or more times weekly and are offered in each of five, 5 to 8-week sessions per year. Many of the series classes have new lesson plans for each session. Some repeat the lesson plans in two or more sessions during the year. Others are so popular that the same class is repeated several times each week to allow more children to participate. These classes are listed with either multiple sections or they are noted as “repeat” if they are carried over from one SESSION to the next.

Comprehensive Classes — Building progressively from September through late May or early June, these are skill and development classes. They include our Dance Program and the following early childhood classes: Old Blues Gallery, New Blues Gallery, and Literally Yours. Pre-registration is available at the beginning of each calendar year for comprehensive classes.

*Tuition Assistance is available for Family Museum Classes.  Please contact Rachel DeMaris at 563-344-4166 for an application or additional information.

SKILL FOCUS KEY:

For each skill focus area, you can expect to see certain types of activities, carefully chosen by each of our teachers to assist your child in building skills in the specific area. Many activities nurture multiple skills, and often a course will address all six skill focus areas! However, we have identified the main focus of

each class in order to assist you in choosing the classes that best fit your child's interests and needs at this time. Specific goals will vary for each age group, with examples including:

Art: Develops hand-eye coordination, experiences different art mediums and artists, realizes an uninhibited sense of creativity.

Kinesthetic: Improves spatial and kinesthetic awareness, improves gross-motor coordination, realizes creativity and personal expression through movement.

Literacy: Familiarity with printed words and books, recognizes individual letters, recognizes and spells own name, recognizes letter sounds, rhymes, follows series of events in stories.

Math: Counts from 1 - 10 from memory, counts a set of objects correctly, recognizes written numbers, recognizes shapes, understands size comparisons, improves sequencing and sorting skills.

Science: Makes observations about the world, compares and contrasts, develops solutions to unfamiliar problems through observation and experimentation, applies knowledge to solve problems.

Social: Listens well, follows directions, is courteous and respectful to others, shares well with others, maintains self-control.
