Drop-in Classes
Everyday, the Family Museum presents delightful drop in workshops that support the developmental needs of kids age 8 and under. Programs will take place in our kid-friendly classrooms, dance studios, or right under the rainbow ceiling in our Great Hall!
No pre-registration is required, and all programs are included with your Family Museum admission or membership.
Drop in programs are designed for families to enjoy cooperatively. Come ready to play and learn together!

Acting Up
Cost: Free
Location: Celebration Room - Action! Put on a show with our future stars as Miss Stephanie directs the fun for kids who love to perform. Learn basic acting skills, practice movement for actors, and play theater games.

Angelina Ballerina

Location: Dance Studio C - Does your little dancer love to watch Angelina Ballerina? Join Ms. Alyssa to learn some of the same steps Angelina works hard to master. Learn basic ballet vocabulary and primary dance steps as we explore our ability to stretch, bend, turn, and glide across the floor.

Location: Celebration Room - What will George discover today? Will he rocket ship to the moon, fly a kite, or paint using just his hands? Ms. kim and Curious George for science and art adventures.

Busy Bees Play Station
Cost: Free
Location: Great Hall - Enjoy some fun and interaction for kids and adults at the Family Museum's Busy Bees Play Station! Toddlers will have plenty of play opportunities, including creative movement, gross motor stations, simple crafts, and more. Adults will also be able to exchange ideas in this relaxed, playful atmosphere. A museum educator will provide lots of fun experiences for our littlest learners, with a focus on building social skills, learning to share, and practicing taking turns. To provide the safest environment for our toddlers, please restrict attendance to children under the age of three.

Location: Get the Message - Come enjoy guided exploration of Get the Message! Explore methods of sending a message, sound experiments, and lots of science fun for everyone.

Drop In Chess
Cost: Free
Come play and learn together when the IllIowa Chess Club hosts Drop In Chess each Saturday. If you have a chess set and board, please bring them, as we have limited sets to share. Games will be just for fun, a chance to practice with each other or an avid chess club member.

Magnificent Murals

Location: Preschool B - Join Ms. Candy in creating magnificent murals to display in the Museum's Great Hall. Each month will be a new theme using paper, paint, markers, glue, and more to create a great piece of art to share with all our visitors!

Move Your Feet!

Location: Dance Studio C - Get in shape for the playground! A Dance faculty member will lead families through simple dance exercises, great movement games, and gentle stretches to keep young bodies strong and healthy.

Music in Motion
Cost: Free
March and mimic, sing and stroll. Hop and skip, make a bell toll. Lots of music and plenty of action take place as little ones jump, skip, roll, run, and scoot through a variety of movements, all while learning to follow directions and take turns.

Open Clay Studio
Cost: Free
Come get your hands dirty in the clay studio! Ms. Carolyn will be guiding our artists through a new project each week as they explore a variety of clays and clay building techniques. There is no additional charge to play; if you'd like to keep certain projects a $5.00 material, firing, and glazing fee will apply.

Over the Ledge

Location: Great Hall - Look out below! What will Ms. Kim and Ms. Rachel drop over the ledge in the Great Hall today? Explore how different sizes, shapes, and materials react to being dropped a full story toward the Great Hall floor.

Quad Cities Juggling Club

Sensory Studio
Cost: Free
Location: Under the Big Tree - A symphony of sound, color, and textures, the Sensory Studio is designed specifically for our infant and toddler visitors and their caregivers. Join Ms. Rachel in the Art Studio for lap songs and fingerplays, followed by super sensory art experiences! All materials used in the sensory studio are food-safe, so our littlest learners can explore with abandon. Come ready to get messy!

Young at Art Open Exploration Studio

Location: Art Studio - Families are invited to create together, explore many forms of visual art, and make messes in the Young at Art Studio! A Museum educator will guide families as they paint, sculpt, collage, and more in our fully equipped art studio. With a focus on the process, not a final product, come express your creative side, learn art techniques, and have a blast!
