Basic Field Trip Information
What's Included: Includes an orientation by museum staff and
independent exploration of all the permanent and traveling exhibit
galleries.
Times Offered: Monday -
Friday, 9:00 am - 3:00 pm
Fees: $2 per child for the field trip. If adding a workshop,
there is an additional charge per child for each workshop.
Adult Chaperones: One adult for every six children is required and
will be admitted free. Additional adults $2 each.
How to Register for a Field Trip
Call (563) 344-4170 Monday-Friday, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. for a field trip or
workshop
Please have the following information ready:
- The title of the field trip and/or workshop.
- Date and time you would like to schedule including possible
alternative dates.
- Group name, mailing address information, phone number, e-mail
address and Fax number if available.
- Your name and phone number.
- Number of students, their grades/ages and any special needs.
- Number of accompanying adults. (One adult for every six children
is required and will be admitted free along with the teacher.
Additional adults $2 each.)
When you register for a field trip, request a copy of the Illinois or
the National Science and Art Learning Standards addressed by these
exhibits if you would like to have that information included in your
confirmation packet.
Eating at the Museum
The Family Museum has limited indoor and outdoor eating spaces
available for any group scheduled over the noon hour. If you would like
to reserve lunch facilities for your group, please make arrangements
while scheduling your visit. Local parks and fast food restaurants are
available within a few blocks of the museum.
Shopping at the "Corner Store"
While you are visiting the Family Museum stop by our Corner Store.
You will find terrific exhibit-related items,
books, teaching materials and a section designed especially with your
field trip kids in mind. A 10% discount is available for educators on
the day of their class visit.
Transportation Subsidy
Subsidies are available for some area schools to help with
transportation costs. Scott, Muscatine and Louisa County Schools are
eligible for subsidies. Download the

Please note: The 2006-2007 school
year subsidies have already been distributed. Additional funds
will be available in September for the 2007-2008 school year.
- Moline Schools are eligible for subsidies made possible by funds
from the Moline Foundation.
- Rock Island/Milan School District subsidies are made possible by
funds from the Doris and Victor Day Foundation.
- Inquire about a transportation subsidy reimbursement when
registering.
Study Trip Scholarships
Through generous support from the Scott County Auto Dealers
Association, funds are available for subsidized museum visit admission
fees. These funds allow students who meet the federal free and reduced
lunch program guidelines to receive subsidized admission to the Family
Museum during a school group field trip. The reduced rate is $.50 per
child representing a $1.50 savings. (This rate does not apply to
workshop fees.)

makes learning about your body fun.

Madness (Grades 1-5)

Gadgets and gears, linkages and cranks… students in this workshop will
make their own toy fun by combining some simple machines to create a
whimsical mechanism. Explore how toys work by making your own!
