Study Trip and Outreach Guide

The Family Museum offers both Art and Science Outreach programs. Programs are designed to be presented to one class at a time and for students to come to the presentation rather than for the presentation to move from one classroom to another.

Our Outreach Programs are both affordable and educational and designed for kids from Kindergarten through 6th grade.

Love Affair of Maggie Nets (Grades K-3)
•Build knowledge about magnets and excitement about science.
•Demonstrations illustrate basic principles of magnetism.
•Students explore over 15 different interactive magnet experiment stations.

Gadgets and Gizmos (Grades 2-6)
•Explore levers, wedges, pulleys, inclined planes, gears, screws and more.
•Samples of simple machines make work easier on our amazing “Tennis Ball Bowling Gizmo”.
•Students create a new contraption that will push, pull, roll and do work.

Solids and Liquids and
Gases… Oh My!
(Grades 2-6)
•A variety of fascinating experiments that investigate the properties of matter.
•Open ended hands on activities that explore solids, liquids, and gases.
•Student–centered excitement and fun.

Geology Rocks! (Grades 3-8)
•Hands-on projects introduce the Geologic Rock Cycle.
•Use scientific techniques to identify mineral samples.
•Learn how geology is used in everyday life.

Understanding Electricity (Grades 2-6)
•Static electricity can be shocking.
•Build a circuit and light a bulb, include a switch.
•Investigate conductors and insulators.
Sound Science (Grades K-6)
•Check out the” vibration relation” of sounds around us.
•Activities explore seeing, feeling and hearing vibrations.
•Students make a vibration sensation that illustrates the science of sound.

Weather Wonders (Grades K-6)
•Experiment with air pressure.
•Touch a tornado and investigate lightning.
•Find out how air, sun, water and Earth work together to make weather happen.

Push Pull Forces (Grades 1-6)
•Investigate how a push or pull makes things go and change direction.
•Experiment with friction to make things slow down and stop.
•Use a push, a pull and friction to build a roller coaster that’s really fast… or maybe slow.

Stuffee® (Grades K-3)
•Stuffee® is a seven foot, blue haired, kid friendly prop with a zipper down the front.
•Unzip Stuffee® to “unlock” the mystery of what’s inside our body.
•Learn why a healthy lifestyle is so important.

•Hands on materials just like real city planners use.

Schedule a Family Night at Your School

Math Festival
Host Family Math Night at your school to spark interest in mathematics while families have fun together. Parents and children will talk about strategy, discover numerical and visual patterns, use mental math and explore geometric properties all while having a great time playing games.

Flight Factory Festival
From the time that people first observed birds and flying insects, human flight has been the subject of our dreams and schemes. The sky was finally opened to humans through science and technology. During Flight Factory Festival families build kites, gliders, helicopters, airplanes, and rockets as they play and learn about how things fly.

Family Science Night
Science is fun and the Family Museum can come to your school with more than ten science stations where families can play and learn while they have a great time doing fascinating science experiments.

Wild Weather—A Traveling Exhibit that Can Come to Your School

Fill a room in your school with interactive weather exhibits for a week.  Students investigate air pressure, find out what a cloud is made of, discover how hot air rises, delve into the states of matter and have fun during a hands-on weather workshop presented by a Family Museum educator. Teachers can use the seven interactive weather exhibits during the entire week to continue investigating weather phenomena with their class.  A teacher workshop and materials accompany the Wild Weather program.

This week-long Wild Weather experience including the seven exhibit components and the workshops can come to your school for only $375.  For more information or to schedule this opportunity for your students, contact Kathy Wierzba, Family Museum Education Coordinator, at 563-344-4171.
