Go
Figure!
September 23 - January 7, 2007
Children and
their caregivers step inside larger than life storybook environments
from five popular children’s books, solve math challenges found within
the pages and engage in role–playing with their favorite characters.
Activities
and environments are based on five popular children’s books: Arthur’s
Pet Business, Goldilocks and the Three Bears, Frog and Toad are Friends:
A Lost Button, The Quilt, and The Doorbell Rang. Go Figure!
encourages children and adults to make connections between math and
everyday life in a unique, inspiring setting. Children and adults can
match, sort, measure, create and read together in this storybook world!
Arthur’s
Pet Business by Marc Brown
Dog collars,
birdcages, fish bowls and more! Arthur is opening a pet business and
needs help! Weigh pet food, match objects, and help Arthur plan his pet
business calendar.
The
Doorbell Rang by Pat Hutchins
Ding-Dong!
Visitors can ring the doorbell and make their way to a delightful
kitchen where cookies are the delicacy of the day. Estimate the number
of cookies in the cupboard, set the table and divide the cookies between
an ever-changing number of guests, follow a recipe and set the timer to
bake!
The Quilt
by Ann Jonas
Children can
crawl through a kid-size tunnel and explore the world of shapes and
patterns. Help a girl find her lost dog and look for patterns in a “hide
and seek” game. Line up, stack and organize blocks and flowers into
patterns to design a quilt pattern.

Frog and
Toad are Friends: A Lost Button
by Arnold
Lobel
Toad has lost
his button! Kids use their sorting and matching skills to help find the
lost fastener. Wear Toad’s button-covered jacket and hop about the
forest or play sorting games with a collection of buttons at the tree
stump station.
Goldilocks
and the Three Bears by James Marshall
Explore the
home of three unforgettable bears. Children can measure themselves on
the front stoop and compare their height to the three bears and compare
their shoe size to the bear’s footprints.
Go Figure!
was designed by the Minnesota Children’s Museum in collaboration
with the American Library Association, with support from the National
Science Foundation. It is sponsored by the Scott County Regional
Authority.
