Explore the World with the Family Museum

Bettendorf — The Family Museum will celebrate the diverse world we live in with a series of cultural events held the first Saturday of each month.  Join us as we learn more about our neighbors, friends, co-workers, fellow students and families, and help us celebrate the community we live in!

All cultural events will have a Children’s Corner that will include hands-on activities following the cultural theme of the day.  Kids can help create a “Living Together” hand banner with Museum educator Mr. Glenn; craft special art activities with Museum educator Ms. Gloria, and explore the map for the location of the country we are celebrating, and learn where we will be traveling next.

November 4th, explore the world of Bosnia with a Bosnian Coffee Party from 1 pm3 pm.  Enjoy traditional food demonstrations, traditional dancing with Sevdah (a Bosnian folk dance group), guitar and prim (mandolin) music, and demonstrations of Bosnian crocheted lace, knitting, and cilim (rug) weaving.

Upcoming celebrations include:

December 2nd:  Israel

January 6th:  African Countries of Mali, Ghana, Guinea, and Senegal

February 3rd:  Mexico
